LiteracyTent provides the Moodle online course system to literacy providers and educators free of charge.
Adult literacy teachers and professional developers who wish to develop and run online courses using this system are welcome to do so. The exact conditions and details of this are pending, but the following guidelines and points apply:
1. There is no technical support for the free service. We will make sure it functions, but we cannot answer "how-to" questions about how to use the system. You may purchase technical support from us if you need it. Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Documentation sections of the official Moodle website for how-to and related information.
2. You are solely responsible for making backups of your courses and materials. LiteracyTent will not be responsible for any sort of data loss or interruption of the service. Moodle has built-in backup capabilities that are very simple to use.
3. Our intent in providing this as a free service is to encourage educators and professional developers to do good work and serve the field. It is permissible for course owners and facilitators to charge reasonable fees to their students, but LiteracyTent will not be an intermediary for this; it will have to be arranged directly between teachers and students.4. Our intent in providing this as a free service does NOT include providing it for high-volume or commercial use. If you want to run more than six courses per year, you will need to contact LiteracyTent staff to discuss a reasonable pricing scheme for this.
5. Courses must be relevent to adult literacy.
6. LiteracyTent reserves the right to suspend this service at any time, for any reason - although it is obviously not our intent to ever do this.
7. LiteracyTent claims no copyright or ownership of any materials hosted or developed within the course systems. Courses belong to their creators, and course creators are responsible for any copyright issues pertaining to material in the courses that they do not create. If you believe any material in an online course is in violation of copyright, please contact the course owner first, and LiteracyTent staff subsequently, and only if it cannot be resolved with the course owner.
Please use the contact form for any questions relating to the use of the system.
